Introduction and concerning news
SPEAKER_03Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. I fear that I need to start off with a bit of an apology here. I forgot to introduce myself last week. My name is Audric Cashmere. I am the former town crier of the town of Moonhaven Falls, and I fear that today I am bringing you some concerning news. A wave of fear and concern has washed over our community following a series of unexplained disappearances of local children. Evidence uncovered by concerned citizens and corroborated by regional adventuring guilds strongly suggests the potential involvement of a powerful, undead entity residing within the depths of the Whispering Caves. Over the past few days, a growing number of children have vanished from their homes in the surrounding area without a trace. Initial investigations by the Moonhaven Falls Guard have yielded no concrete leads, and with no signs of sout with no signs of struggle or forced entry at the affected residences. However, recent expeditions into the fringes of the Whispering Caves have discovered some un some disturbing clues. Have uncovered some disturbing clues. Adventuring parties responding to pleas from distraught families have reported Adventuring Parties, responding to pleas from distraught families, have reported encountering areas radiating necrotic energy, strange arcane symbols etched into ancient trees, and skeletal remains bearing marks consistent with powerful undead manipulation. Most alarmingly, several groups have discovered small personal belongings of the missing children within these unsettling locations, further solidifying the terrifying suspicion they may have been taken into the heart of the Whispering Caves. While no direct confrontation with the suspected creature has yet occurred, the gathered evidence paints a grim picture. The possibility that these missing children have been taken captive for nefarious purposes has sent a chilling wave throughout all of Moonhaven Falls and the surrounding settlements. Elder Maeve, a respectable resident of Moonhaven Falls, had this to say. Local authorities, while limited in their direct ability to engage such a powerful magical threat, are working tirelessly to support the adventuring community and secure the perimeter of the Whispering Caves. They are urging residents to remain vigilant, keep their children close, and report any unusual activity immediately. The safety and security the safety and return of the missing children are considered the top priority. Authorities and adventuring community are all committed to facing this dark threat and bringing our children home. Further updates will be provided as the situation unfolds. For those of you who heard our inaugural broadcast, you no doubt know that someone out there seems to think that we need an intern here at the station. And it seems that someone has informed young Timothy Thistlewick, and he has decided to come on down for an interview, so come on in, Timmy!
SPEAKER_04My neighbor, Miss Higgins, she listens to all the time. And she said she said someone on the show mention my name for an
Interview with Timmy
SPEAKER_04intern spot? That was just twelve. I was in the neighborhood, so I thought I'd stop by.
SPEAKER_03Well, that's certainly proactive, Timothy. Please take a seat. Tell us a little bit about yourself. What makes you think you would be a good fit for an internship here at the Crystal Network? What are your um qualifications? Do you make a mean cup of coffee? Uh good at refocusing resonance crystals? I mean, these are vital skills, my young friend. Vital skills.
SPEAKER_04Well, I'm pretty organized. I help Miss Higgins with her grocery list, and I keep her garden tidy again, and I'm a really fast learner. Also good with crystal harmonics. Oh. Also, I helped my butther with the sturgeon repellent necklaces. I also heard your first broadcast. I think you guys are onto something here.
SPEAKER_03Well, that is a good start, Timmy. Familiarity with her content is a definite plus. What kind of things do you enjoy about the Moonhaven Falls Crystal Network?
SPEAKER_04Oh, I like it all. I really like the news updates and the crossroad chronicles is great. I love hearing about Goroth's dream.
SPEAKER_03Well, that's certainly a unique endorsement. So, Timmy, you heard about someone recommending you. Do you know who that might have been? Was it a mysterious benefactor some shadowy figure whispering your name in the wind, or just, you know, Brenda from accounting after her third cup of coffee?
SPEAKER_04I'm not sure. Mrs. Hagins has said someone thought I had a potential. They mentioned I was a bright young spark or something like that.
SPEAKER_03I do recall reading something about a bright young spark. Interesting. Well, Timothy, we appreciate you stopping by. We weren't exactly advertising for interns at the moment, but your enthusiasm certainly noted. You got guts to show up. That's intern material right there, I tell you what. Well, um we'll think about it. In the meantime, maybe uh stick around. Help us sort out these listener mailbags. It's character building, you know.
SPEAKER_04That would be great. I'd love to help.
SPEAKER_03Well, alright then, Timmy. Welcome aboard. For now. I mean, you know. We'll see what you got. And to our listeners, you never know who might walk through the door here at the Moonhaven Falls Crystal Network, so stay tuned. We'll be right back after the break.
SPEAKER_04Okay, where do I start?
SPEAKER_03Alright, Timmy, just follow me down the hall here. We'll get you started.
SPEAKER_01It'll be uh first door on the right here is where we're keeping all And as the sun gleams on the water as the sun Hello to you, my lords and ladies.
SPEAKER_03Greeting and a firm thanks to our knights and adventurers. A hello to the thieves,
Crossroads Chronicals - Serephenia Scalesong
SPEAKER_03to the merchants, to our fellow entertainers, and to the citizens of all walks of life here in the Lost Realms. Welcome back to Crossroads Chronicles, the show that delves into the vibrant and often unexpected lives of the folk who call the Lost Realms home. Today we have a truly unique guest in the studio. She has slithered her way up the charts with her mesmerizing melodies and thought-provoking lyrics, proving that inspiration can strike in the most unusual of places. Please welcome the Singing Sensation Naga Serafina Scale Song.
SPEAKER_01Greetings, dear listeners. It is a pleasure to be here on Crossroads Chronicles.
SPEAKER_03Serafina, your music has taken the realm by storm. From bustling taverns in the broken coast to quiet groves of the Emerald Enclave, everyone is humming your tunes. Your latest single, shedding yesterday's expectations, is number one on the arcane charts. What exactly has inspired this incredible musical journey?
SPEAKER_01Well, the path to artistic expression is often winding, is it not? For many moons I follow the traditions of my lineage, the ancient wisdom and well let's uh say a certain expectation of regarding things.
SPEAKER_03Regarding things like um treasure, ancient ruins, things like that.
SPEAKER_01Precisely, yes. But to my heart it yearned for a different kind of resonance. I found the silence of the Forgotten Chambers to be stifling.
SPEAKER_03And that's where Crossroad Chronicles comes in, correct? I understand a particular episode played a significant role in your artistic awakening?
SPEAKER_01Indeed it did. I was um observing the local broadcasts a rather fascinating human invention, these crystals. And I happened upon an episode featuring a minotaur.
SPEAKER_03Ah yes, Gorak Battlehorn, the Minotaur who traded his great axe for a baker's apron. Truly a heartwarming story about following one's passion.
SPEAKER_01Heartwarming. Yes, it it is. But for me it was also very revolutionary. Here was a creature of immense strength and a history steeped in conflict, choosing instead the delicate art of kneading dough and the s sweet aroma of ricing bread. It's uh struck a chord within my very coils.
SPEAKER_03Well how so? As a Naga, your history and societal expectations are very, very different from a Minotaur's, aren't they?
SPEAKER_01This is true, yes. Yet the underlying sentiment resonated deeply. The courage to defy expectations to embrace a path that brings us joy and fulfillment, regardless of one's heritage. It was profoundly inspiring to me. Gorak's story showed me that one does not have to be defined by their past, nor the assumptions of others.
SPEAKER_03So Gorak's pursuit of pastry led directly to Seraphina's sonic serenades? That's quite a leap.
SPEAKER_01Perhaps perhaps but Gorak's bravery in embracing flower and frosting gave me the courage to embrace melody and metaphor. His story was the catalyst that allowed me to shed my own metaphorical skin, and reveal the music that has been coiled deep within me.
SPEAKER_03And what a beautiful sound that is. Now your lyrics often explore themes of uh transformation, of self-discovery, finding one's own voice, themes that quite clearly stem from your inspiration. Could you tell us a little bit about your songwriting process? Does your serpentine form influence your creativity?
SPEAKER_01My form My form lends a certain rhythm to my thoughts. A flowing quality, if you will. And the world appears very differently from my vantage point. I see these subtle movements in the grass the way the light dances on the forest floor these observations often weave their way into my lyrics and the hissing well it can be quite hypnotic when layered correctly.
SPEAKER_03Indeed it can, indeed it can. Shedding yesterday's expectations talks about leaving behind old burdens, about embracing change. Is there a particular message you hope your listeners take away from your music?
SPEAKER_01That the possibilities are as boundless as as as the planes themselves. That even if the world ceases you one way, your true self may lie waiting to be discovered. And that sometimes the most unexpected of sources can spark the most beautiful of transformations. As a fiercesome minotaur can find joy in baking, a humble Naga, like myself, can find her voice in song.
SPEAKER_03That was beautifully said, Serafina. And I believe you've truly shown us that inspiration can be found in even the most surprising corners of the realm. Serafina Scalesong, thank you so very much for sharing your incredible story with us here on Crossroads Chronicles. We wish you continued success on the charts.
SPEAKER_01The pleasure was all mine, Audric. May your own paths be filled with inspiring encounters.

SPEAKER_03Hello, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to our inaugural Adventurer's Call, where we scour the notice boards here in the Lost Realms so you don't have to. I am your host, Audrey Cashmere, and today we've pulled up a chair outside of the infamous Rusty Nail Tavern down in Puddleton, a board known for its um unique blend of high and low stakes ridiculousness. Let's see what Fate has pinned up for us today. Uh oh, here we go. Couple of simple, sincere starter quests, bread and butter of every new adventuring party. Quest number one, the missing Moo. Here's one great for that level one party, just looking for, you know, couple of gold pieces and a good night's rest. It's got a 25 silver piece reward and a wheel of rather pungent, if delicious, cheese. The details of this one are uh you are asked to find a missing prize-winning cow named Betsy. She wanders, she's slow, she answers to the sound of a lute playing the bard's lament, apparently, and she was last seen heading toward the Whispering Wood. Do not let the goblins of the Whispering Wood have her, it says, as they keep trying to milk her, and they do it wrong. Now, my personal take on this one is that this is a classic. It's a simple survival check to track her, probably just convincing her, so maybe performance or animal handling to lure her home with the uh the loot tune should really be easy gold. Do watch out for the uh the goblin dairy enthusiasts, however. They tend to get a little bit upset when you interfere with their plans. Quest number two. Ah, here's another quick, easy one. This one is labeled Rats in the Basement. Reward for this one is five gold pieces per tail, which is actually unusually generous for just a rat problem. Uh it would appear the drunken dragon inn has a rat problem in the cellar and Oh. Here's why. They're not just any rats, these are giant rats. It would appear they ate the owner's favorite corkscrew, and he wants them cleaned out before sundown. Oh, restrictions! No fire spells allowed. Apparently they still have three barrels of high octane orcish rot gut down there, and they do not want them exploding. Well, I mean that's understandable. My take on this one? This would be a fine fight for a fledgling fighter or rogue, maybe a barbarian. Good way to test your blade against some tiny aggressive teeth, just a fun little dungeon crawl, you know. Gonna end probably with a lot of squish, maybe a new rat chewed corkscrew. I would not wear my good boots for this one, though. Quest number three, let's look for something a little bit harder here. Um, this one looks like it could be interesting. Oh, this is gonna require a bit more finesse than I would be capable of, but you know, we'd probably need a bit of luck, maybe some questionable on-the-spot decisions too. Um This one's called the Baron's Cloak. The reward for it is a masterwork loot signed by a celebrity bard, as well as a lifetime supply of apparently warm beer. Uh there's a note here saying that a local bard is offering this reward to retrieve a prized purple velvet cloak from Baron Van Hag's private collection. The owner claims that Van Hag took it for a masquerade ball and is refusing to give it back. The condition to this is that it needs to be stolen while a party member is wearing a full body chicken costume. Yeah, you heard that right. Chicken costume. Apparently, someone has tipped off the good baron that anyone in a chicken costume is a potential spy. My personal take on this one, you're gonna need some pretty decent stealth ability. I mean, um, even if you get someone else to wear the chicken suit, but you fail your stealth, it's immediately going to be a fast-talking situation to try and convince the Baron that you are, in fact, just a very enthusiastic poultry performer at a masquerade ball. We're looking at high risk, huge chance of comedic hijinks. Probably don't need a full party for this one. Honestly, you'd probably be better off with just one or two people. One person for the distraction and the other person to sneak in while the uh the distraction's wearing the chicken suit to take back the velvet cloak. Uh looking a little further down here. Oh! Oh boy, whew! This is a this is a doozy. Uh the sunken vault of the moon eater. The reward for this one is the legendary crown of the first tide. Heck of a reward, as well as five thousand gold pieces payable upon proof of success. The poster writes that a rogue merfolk arcdruid known as the Moon Eater has begun summoning water elementals off the Divine Coast up near the Isle of Dread. Apparently, the elementals have started eroding the shorelines and have been uh damaging local fishing nets. Now, this is going to be a rather difficult task, especially since the vault can only be accessed during a new moon at the lowest tide. That means you've got four-ish hours to breach the complex, disable the druid siphon, um I'm guessing at least that he's got a moonstone siphon for summoning, and then probably escape back out before the tide locks the door for another day. Personal take on this one, it just wow. Um, definitely gonna require a full party. You're talking multiple skills, perfect timing, I mean bare minimum. You're gonna need someone who can find the correct time for the tides. You're going to need a strong swimmer with a good length of rope, capable of fighting the undertow and pulling any weaker swimmers behind them. Um it's almost guaranteed to end up as a brutal combat encounter, too. I mean, especially with a powerful druid like this one, they they tend to not take pleas to stop very well. Yeah, uh race against the clock, race against the tide, a fight against a furious magic user. I I would do no less than a party of five. Make sure you've got at least one or two strong swimmers, definitely another strong caster, or at least a good way to negate spell casting. Gonna want a couple of frontline fighters, probably a decent rogue as well for getting in and out of the complex, you know, just in case your timing's a hair off. I mean, there you have it, my brave listeners. Uh, from a noisy cow to a deep sea raid, the rusty nail board is never dull. I am kind of curious, which notice would you take down and shove in your backpack? Well, until next time, I hope your skills carry you through, your backpacks always have room for one more quest scroll, and that you make it through to listen to just one more episode. This is Audrey Cashmere, signing off. A big thanks to you, ladies and gentlemen. This concludes part two of our first ever post. We do release new episodes every Tuesday morning at
